Belfast City Hospital (BCH) is an Acute Hospital located on a 32-acre campus, south of Belfast City Centre. The hospital complex is adjacent to Queens University Belfast (QUB); the hospital site is also occupied by a number of QUB Health Sciences faculty buildings. The proximity of these buildings, each with their significant energy usage, implied that a joint energy strategy encompassing some or all of BHT and QUB buildings was worth consideration. These Collaborative Energy proposals had to include the essential power and heat requirements for critical-care buildings and various acute clinical services, whilst maintaining adequate resilience for staff/patient safety.
