A new state-of-the-art County Museum for Sligo and an extension to The Model Arts and Niland Gallery, originally opened to house the innovative model school in 1859.

IN2 Engineering was responsible for the full environmental, mechanical and electrical services installations, including sustainable biomass boilers for heating requirements and solar panels for hot water heating. Gallery and Archival spaces were provided with a “Conservation Heating” system in order to ensure environmental control for relative humidity without recourse to expensive air conditioning.

The “Black Box” performance space included the integration of performance venue sound and lighting systems. The space is served with a displacement ventilation system. Displacement systems provide tempered air at low velocities at low level within the space, this air rises to high level due to occupant and space heating loads, where it is extracted. Due to the more moderate cooling supply temperatures and reduced fan power requirements in comparison to that of standard mixed mode systems, displacement systems are a low energy solution which also provide improved air quality, enhanced comfort and minimal noise.
