Building services design for 4 schools over a highly restricted programme period. The schools are a mix of primary and secondary, with a total area of 9,176m2 new build and 4,024m2 extension and refurbishment. An important aspect of the designs was the approach to ventilation. IN2 designed a natural ventilation strategy, which was substantiated through Dynamic Simulation Model (DSM) using Thermal Analysis Software (TAS) of the entire buildings. The projects illustrate how low-energy mechanical and electrical installations can be implemented in conjunction with passive design principles, to ensure that cost-effective buildings can be achieved in terms of initial capital outlay, as well as ongoing energy and maintenance over the life cycle of the building.
