Fast-track SHD planning has been approved by An Bord Pleanála for Airton Road
Airton Road is a major residential project located in suburban Dublin proposed to bring over 500 apartment units to the former Gallaher cigarette factory site in Tallaght, Dublin 24. Spanning between 4 to 8 stories in height across 6 blocks this development will provide high levels of connectivity to the existing social and community infrastructure. IN2 Engineering was appointed to undertake Environmental analysis for the project’s approved planning application, including Daylight/ Sunlight and Wind/ Pedestrian Comfort analysis.
Wind analysis was undertaken to predict pressures and velocities for varying wind directions. A comfort criterion (Lawson) was then utilised which essentially accounts for the probability of wind direction (i.e. wind effects from prevailing SW direction have most influence) to predict pedestrian comfort in terms of areas being suitable for sitting/ standing etc. for amenity spaces including courtyards and balconies. Our environmental and sustainability team identified no excessive wind effects would be expected for the development, for which mitigation would be required.
Sunlight / Daylight Analysis
Daylight/Sunlight analysis included both assessments of individual apartments to ensure that both Living Rooms and Bedrooms can enjoy sufficient natural light, whilst the configurations of Courtyards etc. were verified that they will receive plentiful sunlight throughout the year to enable their usage as Amenity spaces.
IN2 Engineering’s involvement has ensured that best-practice environmental principles have been integrated into the design approach, with planning approved in June 2020.
