The Trinity School of Business, Dublin

IN2 was appointed, following a competitive tendering procedure, as mechanical and electrical design consultants on this prestigious project at Trinity College Dublin’s city centre campus.

The project involved a new Trinity School of Business, co-located with an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, with the aim to support a growing entrepreneurial culture among Trinity’s students and faculties, drive job creation in the city centre, and help position Dublin as a global node for innovation and start-up enterprises.

The 12,000m2 project is an exemplar building design which maximises environmental performance whilst minimising energy requirements. Whilst the building design has many complex features (double skin facade, atrium, etc.) and particular site constraints (heritage buildings, adjacent rail line etc.), this was delivered and proven through simulation techniques in order to ensure a simple operation of use for occupants, with direct connection to the external environment.

The main Business School comprises primarily of Learning Spaces arranged around a central atrium space and double skin façades promoting natural light and ventilation. In addition, the building incorporates a 600-seater Auditorium, Lecture Theatres, Campus Boardroom, Executive Education area, Innovation Hub, Post-Graduate office spaces. An additional refurbishment formed part of the overall Project, comprising of Student Residential Accommodation (within protected structures) and Café annex.

The building’s energy performance is in accordance with the Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Directive as implemented within TGD Part L 2017 of the Building Regulations; despite having been designed in advance of this definition (2014-2015) and is thus envisaged to be one of the first prestigious projects in Ireland to achieve this.

The Moxy Hotel, Dublin

With over 70 Moxy hotels across 3 continents, this project involved the development of the first Moxy to debut in Ireland. Located in the heart of Dublin the development comprised of the conversion and extension of the existing 1970’s style office block Sackville House to facilitate the new 158 guest bedroom boutique hotel. IN2 was appointed to design the M&E systems and provide advice on sustainable design for the development: mechanical, electrical and building mass and thermal modelling whilst adhering to the international brand standards of the Marriott Group.

Having opened in November 2019 the hotel includes meeting facilities with independent M&E systems/control operation, lounge, Gymnasium, Restaurant and bar, alongside a separate unit at ground level delivered to shell and core standards for potential retail/commercial use.
