×Located in central Dublin Dorset Point is a new build high profile student accommodation on what was once an underutilised brownfield site. IN2 was appointed as the building service engineers for this purpose-built project. Dorset Point hosts 446no. bed spaces along with a variety of facilities for resident students including a cinema, large study spaces, reception, management suite, fully equipped gym, laundry room, and communal spaces. At ground level, Dorset Point also includes retail units, café, financial services, and medical floorspace.
IN2s low-energy design strategy for the 13,400m2 development relied on Combined Heat and Power to generate hot water for all kitchens, bathrooms etc and the use of passive design such as the use of natural ventilation within the sleeping accommodation. Mechanical ventilation is however provided via highly efficient “fresh air modules” which temper incoming fresh air to both offset heating costs and reduce draughts and potential street noise from opening windows. Completed in 2017 Dorset Point achieved a BER rating of B1 and NZEB compliance.
