IN2 identified the benefits of an on-site energy generation strategy designed to meet targets identified in the University’s Carbon Management Plan (CMP). QUB has committed to a 21% reduction in their Carbon output by the year 2020. IN2 proposed Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technology as most appropriate to meet the University’s energy needs.
To achieve Quality Assurance for Combined Heat and Power (CHPQA) accreditation, IN2 developed an innovative proposal for exporting heat to the neighbouring City Council’s Botanic Gardens. This enabled the University’s CHP plant to continue operation during off-peak times and provided Belfast City Council with a source of cost effective heating.
