Swan Leisure Centre
Dublin
Client: Dublin City Council
Architect: Donnelly Turpin Architects
Value: €27m
The project consists of a Major Civic Leisure Centre for Dublin City Council with 46 No. “A” Energy Rated High Spec residential units located above.
A combination of high efficiency gas boilers and solar water collection systems on a centralised basis enabled these units to achieve such a high energy rating. The Leisure Facility, consisting of a 25 metre municipal swimming pool, multi-purpose hall, fitness studios, gymnasium and changing facilities, is heated by a central 350kW CHP plant.
IN2 were responsible for the design of the pool water and ventilation systems including carrying out extensive specialist computer airflow modelling using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) in order to produce an innovative pool hall ventilation system which improves comfort and eliminates condensation risks on the glazed roof elements. IN2 designed the exterior public lighting to complement the architect’s vision for the space whilst complying with the strict requirements of Dublin City Council’s Public Lighting Department.
