IN2 are experts in designing and delivering low energy, low carbon, sustainable buildings. This is often complemented by achieving the highest ratings possible in various assessment methods and by following a Building Life approach which ensured a building continues to perform as intended.

Building Energy Design Approach

Our approach to building design prioritises the use of Passive Design principles: in particular Natural Ventilation and Daylight, supplementing these with low-energy mechanical and electrical systems and applicable renewable technologies.

Dynamic Simulation Modelling

DSM involves the creation of computational models (IN2 utilise Tas software) describing a building’s form and geometry, materials and construction, fenestration and shading, internal usages and profiles, user behaviour (opening/ closing windows and blinds etc.) and plant/control systems. DSM’s are then simulated against historic climatic data for temperature, solar radiation and wind etc., predicting internal comfort and energy usage. This approach enables sophisticated energy profiles to be created for proposed developments; or be replicated in the case of existing buildings, ensuring potential energy savings can be analysed and predicted with confidence.

Carbon Neutral Solutions

IN2’s extensive experience and expertise in energy modelling enables us to realise Carbon Neutral building solutions, with accurate determination of what combination of building fabric, services and/or renewable technology improvements are best implemented for particular projects on a bespoke basis, accounting for Life Cycle Costings and associated Payback Analysis.

Energy Compliance and Certification

The energy modelling process undertaken by IN2 also enables continuous assessment of Building Regulations Part L energy compliance and Building Energy Rating (BER) certification throughout the design stages. This is undertaken by IN2’s in-house SEAI accredited BER assessors utilising DesignBuilder and DEAP for non-domestic and dwellings respectively.
